Description
Accounts Matters seeks an experienced Bookkeeper/Accountant to join our finance team and oversee the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of UK tax regulations, VAT schemes, and accounting best practices. The successful candidate will manage a team of seven, ensuring seamless coordination and compliance with financial policies and deadlines. A strong command of QuickBooks Online and Xero is essential for maintaining financial systems and reporting. The Bookkeeper/Accountant plays a critical role in managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and tax preparation. This position demands precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under strict deadlines. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong teamwork skills, effectively leading their team to achieve accurate and timely financial operations while adapting to the dynamic requirements of the accounting environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily bookkeeping activities including recording transactions, posting journal entries, and maintaining the general ledger accurately.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely invoice processing and payment collections.
- Perform bank reconciliations using QuickBooks Online and Xero, identifying and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with UK VAT schemes, applying expert knowledge to maintain adherence to regulations.
- Coordinate payroll processing through payroll software, guaranteeing error-free computation and timely payouts.
- Lead a team of seven accounting professionals, providing guidance, support, and performance management to enhance team productivity.
- Compile financial reports in accordance with financial reporting standards, assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and improve financial accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct tax return preparation and filing in compliance with UK tax laws, ensuring all deadlines are met and documentation is thorough.
- Utilize Excel and accounting software tools such as QuickBooks Desktop, Sage Accounting, and Xero to streamline accounting operations.
- Ensure data entry is performed with high levels of accuracy to avoid accounting errors and maintain reliable financial records.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to align financial objectives and support organizational goals.
- Adapt to fast-paced work environments and manage multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines effectively.
