Afghanistan Open University is seeking experienced English Language Teachers who are passionate about fostering language skills and enhancing the educational experience for students. Candidates should hold a Master’s degree in English Language or English Literature and possess strong English communication and teaching abilities. This role involves delivering high-quality lessons both in traditional classrooms and online settings, focusing on communicative language teaching methods. Teachers will play a vital role in helping students develop proficiency in English through tailored instruction, assessments, and support. While prior teaching experience is preferred, aptitude in lesson planning and classroom management are essential to thrive in this position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in English language proficiency, grammar and vocabulary instruction, and differentiated instructional techniques to meet diverse learner needs. They must be able to design effective lesson plans, administer English language assessments such as IELTS preparation, and apply innovative teaching strategies that advance students’ communicative competence. Knowledge of Pashto offers an added advantage to connect better with learners. This role does not involve managing a team but requires a proactive and adaptable approach to support student learning and contribute to the development of the university’s language programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and learning objectives.
• Deliver engaging English language lessons focusing on speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
• Utilize communicative language teaching methods to promote effective interaction and practical language use.
• Assess students’ language proficiency regularly using standardized tests and formative assessments.
• Provide differentiated instruction to accommodate varying proficiency levels and learning styles.
• Manage classroom activities and maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment conducive to student participation.
• Incorporate vocabulary and grammar instruction seamlessly within communication-focused lessons.
• Prepare students for English proficiency exams such as IELTS by delivering targeted practice and feedback.
• Facilitate online classes using digital platforms, ensuring accessibility and engagement for remote learners.
• Offer additional support and tutoring to students who require further assistance to improve language skills.
• Collaborate with colleagues and academic staff to review and enhance teaching materials and methods.
• Stay current with developments in English language teaching methodologies and implement best practices.
• Apply cultural sensitivity and awareness in lesson delivery to respect and engage students from diverse backgrounds.
