UK Transport & Load Planner / Dispatcher

Description

Langston Group seeks a dedicated UK Transport & Load Planner / Dispatcher with at least one year of experience in transport, haulage, logistics, or freight operations. This role involves planning and coordinating the efficient loading and dispatch of trucks and commercial vehicles within the UK, as well as the European and USA transport markets. Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational skills, excellent communication, and negotiation abilities while working under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The position requires proficiency in managing transport/logistics systems, overseeing delivery schedules, and maintaining effective communication with customers, brokers, carriers, and drivers. The ideal candidate will ensure optimal truck utilisation by arranging suitable loads for available vehicles and allocating them efficiently. They function as a critical link between drivers on the road and the operational team, monitoring delivery progress, resolving operational challenges quickly, and updating all stakeholders regularly. While this position does not involve managing a team, it plays a vital role supporting the wider transport operations team to maintain smooth and timely delivery of goods across various markets.

Responsibilities

• Identify and arrange suitable loads for available trucks and commercial vehicles to maximise utilisation and efficiency.
• Plan and allocate loads to appropriate vehicles and drivers based on capacity, route, and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate closely with drivers while they are in transit to monitor progress and provide necessary support.
• Track deliveries in real-time, promptly addressing any delays, cancellations, or schedule changes.
• Communicate regularly and clearly with customers, brokers, carriers, and transport companies to update on load statuses and coordinate operations.
• Negotiate load rates and transportation prices to ensure cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality service.
• Minimise empty running by effectively managing load assignments and optimising routes.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of loads, vehicles, drivers, and deliveries to support operational transparency.
• Resolve operational problems swiftly and effectively to avoid disruptions in delivery schedules.
• Support the wider transport operations team by sharing relevant information and assisting with daily logistics activities.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies related to transport and load planning.
• Utilise computer systems and transport/logistics software to manage and organise transport operations efficiently.
• Exercise strong organisational and time-management skills to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines consistently.
