Description
The successful candidate will function as a rice expert who comprehensively understands the nuances of various rice varieties, processing methods, and market demands. They will use their solid relationships with rice suppliers and mills to source quality rice while preventing financial losses due to inferior product, specification deviations, or fraudulent practices. While managing no team, the specialist will independently carry out detailed quality assessments and negotiate effectively with suppliers. This position requires in-depth knowledge of multiple rice types such as 11/21 Golden Rice, Sella Rice, Basmati varieties, and others. The Rice Procurement & Purchasing Specialist plays a vital role in sustaining Ossoul Food’s competitive edge in the rice trading and distribution industry by securing high-quality rice products that meet customer expectations and maintain market standards.
Responsibilities
- Purchase rice directly from factories and rice mills, ensuring prices remain competitive and quality standards are upheld.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of paddy selection and purchasing techniques to assess rice quality thoroughly throughout the production chain.
- Inspect factories and mills regularly, evaluating rice batches based on grain length, broken percentage, moisture level, color, aroma, purity, and overall quality.
- Identify and differentiate various rice varieties, quality grades, and processing methods to assure the correct product selection to meet market demand.
- Detect signs of mixed rice, inferior grades, artificial polishing, hidden defects, and other quality issues to avoid substandard purchases.
- Recognize and prevent purchasing fraud and factory manipulations by understanding manufacturing practices and potential scam methods.
- Negotiate purchase terms including price, payment conditions, quantities, and quality assurances with suppliers to optimize company investment and reduce risks.
- Maintain strong relationships with rice factories, mills, and suppliers to secure reliable supply channels and up-to-date market knowledge.
- Make informed purchasing decisions aligned with local market requirements and customer preferences to maximize product competitiveness.
- Conduct thorough inspections and quality control to guarantee that rice supplied matches agreed specifications and approved samples exactly.
- Monitor industry trends, quality standards, and pricing of various rice types such as 11/21 Golden Rice, White Rice, Sella Rice, and Basmati variants.
- Advise company management on rice purchasing strategies, highlighting potential risks, quality concerns, and fraud prevention techniques.
- Work independently without managing a team, effectively handling all aspects of procurement, supplier audits, and quality evaluations.
- Ensure the company avoids losses from poor quality rice, incorrect specifications, supplier frauds, and market complaints through diligent oversight.
