Description
The SBCC Officer plays a crucial role in implementing the Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) component of health-related projects at the field level. Under the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist and overall guidance of the Project Manager-Health, the officer is responsible for applying relevant behavior change theories and social norms approaches to drive behavior change initiatives. The primary goal is to foster appropriate health-seeking behaviors within targeted communities, thereby supporting demand creation for Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), Primary Health, and Reproductive Health services. The officer serves as an essential link between community members, health service providers, and other project stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and coordination for outreach efforts and project success. The SBCC Officer actively contributes to the planning, coordination, and execution of outreach activities and community health programs. Though the role does not involve managing a team, the officer works collaboratively with the SBCC Coordinator and the Project Health Manager to align strategies and maximize the impact of health communication activities. This position demands a deep understanding of social and behavior change principles, strong community engagement skills, and the ability to translate complex health messages into actionable information that resonates with diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
Support the Communication Teams in implementing the SBCC strategy and action plan during the grant period
Assist in developing and rolling out demand creation guidelines and tools that facilitate demand generation for different health services
Conduct community sensitization and mobilization sessions and deliver behavior change communication to the targeted population
Assist in preparing the SBCC annual work plan and implement assigned activities in line with the plan and agreed timelines
Disseminate key IYCF, EPI, and Reproductive health messages to targeted populations and monitor their reach and uptake
Coordinate with M&E teams, the Project Health Manager and the Communication Specialist to track progress of SBCC activities and provide inputs for quarterly reviews
Assist in documenting project results and impacts in various forms, including media stories, lessons learned, case studies and client satisfaction, and contribute to quarterly and annual reporting
Contribute to the production and distribution of periodic success stories, advocacy briefs and leaflets
Support the arrangement of radio message campaigns, advocacy forums, community engagement sessions and distribution of information, education and communication materials
Support advocacy opportunities with local stakeholders to ensure project success at district and provincial level
Contribute to communications through sound research, analysis of the assigned area of work, and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audiences
Carry out any other activities assigned by the supervisor.
