The Community Livelihood Officer / Gender & Community Adaptation Officer at Society of Facilitators and Trainers-SOFT plays a vital role in fostering sustainable community development in rural Sindh. This position requires a committed professional with 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in community mobilization, agricultural extension services, or livelihood projects. The officer actively engages with rural communities to promote gender mainstreaming, women’s economic empowerment, and social inclusion, ensuring that development initiatives are both inclusive and adaptive to community needs. The role involves close collaboration with local stakeholders to design and implement strategies that improve livelihoods and bolster resilience against social and environmental challenges. The successful candidate possesses a deep understanding of the socio-economic context of rural Sindh and applies this knowledge to promote community-driven solutions. Though this role does not involve team management, it requires excellent coordination and communication skills to work effectively within multi-stakeholder environments. The officer identifies barriers to gender and social inclusion and develops practical approaches that empower marginalized groups, particularly women. By championing sustainable adaptation practices and livelihood improvements, this position contributes significantly to the organization’s mission of empowering rural communities and facilitating equitable development across Sindh.
Responsibilities
- Mobilize rural communities in Sindh to participate actively in livelihood enhancement and agricultural extension programs.
- Design, implement, and monitor gender mainstreaming initiatives that promote women’s economic empowerment and broader social inclusion.
- Conduct community assessments to identify vulnerabilities, needs, and opportunities related to livelihood and gender adaptation strategies.
- Develop and facilitate training sessions for community members and local partners to build capacity in sustainable agriculture, livelihood diversification, and gender sensitivity.
- Collaborate with local government bodies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to align project activities with regional development plans and policies.
- Promote inclusive decision-making processes that ensure participation of women and marginalized groups in community development activities.
- Support data collection, reporting, and documentation of project progress and outcomes related to livelihood and gender adaptation efforts.
- Advocate for community interests in forums and planning meetings to secure resources and support for livelihood and gender-based programs.
- Identify potential risks and challenges in project implementation and propose adaptive solutions to mitigate their impact.
- Continuously update knowledge on best practices in rural livelihood development, gender mainstreaming, and community adaptation to climate and social change.
