Description
United Human Resource Services Pvt. Ltd seeks a diligent and detail-oriented Market Surveyor to conduct comprehensive surveys in wholesale and retail markets involving goods under customs scrutiny. This role requires collecting accurate market data, including domestic prices, quality specifications, and origin information of imported goods. The Market Surveyor also gathers supplementary data such as transport costs, distribution margins, and seasonal price fluctuations to support customs valuation processes. Working closely with customs officers and various internal teams, the Market Surveyor ensures declared import values align with prevailing market conditions for effective valuation ruling preparations. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field and possesses strong observation, data collection, and communication skills. This position involves frequent local travel to markets and requires the ability to liaise effectively with traders, wholesalers, and importers. The successful candidate demonstrates integrity and impartiality in reporting and maintains detailed records that uphold accountability and accuracy in all survey activities. This role is suitable for candidates with up to two years of experience and does not involve managing a team.
Responsibilities
Market Data Collection
- Conduct regular surveys in wholesale and retail markets for goods under customs scrutiny.
- Record prevailing domestic market prices of imported goods, including details on quality, grade, and country of origin.
- Collect supplementary data such as transport costs, distribution margins, and seasonal price variations.
Valuation Support:
- Compare surveyed market prices with declared import values to identify discrepancies or anomalies.
- Provide inputs for preparing and updating Valuation Rulings issued by DG Customs Valuation.
- Assist customs officers in verifying whether declared values align with prevailing market conditions.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare comprehensive market survey reports with clear price ranges, sources, and supporting evidence
- Submit survey data in prescribed formats for entry into valuation databases.
- Maintain accurate records of survey visits, trader interactions, and price quotations.
Stakeholder Coordination:
- Liaise with traders, wholesalers, and importers to collect reliable and accurate price data.
- Coordinate with Valuation Officers, Data Analysts, and Risk Management teams.
- Participate in joint exercises with other customs units as required.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Fresh graduates may apply; however, candidates with experience in market research, trade, or customs-related work will be preferred
- Knowledge of local trading practices, wholesale/retail markets, and imported commodities
- Integrity and impartiality in reporting market information
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Willingness to travel frequently to local markets
