Description
In this role, the appointed leader is responsible for establishing the freight department’s standard operating procedures, performance management systems, and training plans. They will manage daily freight operations including booking, documentation, and issue resolution, while controlling costs and optimizing transit times. The position requires leveraging existing customer networks to introduce and expand freight services on the China-Pakistan trade route, providing end-to-end logistics solutions to meet customer needs. The successful candidate will have extensive industry experience, strong supplier management skills, and the ability to develop a highly localized and efficient freight team. Language skills in English and Urdu are essential, with Chinese language knowledge considered an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement the organizational structure and staffing plans for the freight department.
- Recruit, train, and develop a localized bilingual freight team to ensure smooth business operations.
- Establish and maintain departmental standard operating procedures, performance appraisal systems, and training programs.
- Create and manage operational procedures and supplier management systems for sea, air, rail, and multimodal transport.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers including shipping lines, airlines, freight forwarders, and trucking fleets.
- Formulate freight pricing models, cost accounting systems, and customer quotation processes.
- Leverage existing customer networks to introduce China-Pakistan trade freight business, including traditional and e-commerce segments.
- Provide comprehensive end-to-end logistics solutions to enhance customer loyalty in both China and Pakistan markets.
- Oversee daily freight operations such as booking, documentation, shipment tracking, and exception handling.
- Control freight operation costs, optimize transit times, and ensure service quality adheres to established standards.
- Monitor and report on freight department performance metrics and operational improvements.
- Build strong communication channels to support bilingual operations, emphasizing team cohesion and cross-cultural collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and documentation requirements including L/C, telex release, and insurance procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to elevate freight operation efficiency and customer satisfaction.
