Description
The Tech Lead will play a foundational role in transforming higher education with innovative, scalable, and cloud-native solutions. You will lead the growth journey from a working prototype to a robust platform operating at scale, making critical decisions about service boundaries, container orchestration, multi-tenancy, and cost management. Your expertise with Python, Java, TypeScript, Go, relational databases, API design, and cloud technologies such as AWS and Terraform will be essential. Collaborating closely with academic and operational teams, you will ensure the software meets real institutional needs while continuously raising the bar of technical excellence within ZRBF’s engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Own the Maktab platform’s architecture, driving its evolution from initial launch to supporting 100,000 students with a focus on scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
- Define and enforce development processes for working with AI coding agents, including their scope, review mechanisms, testing standards, and maintaining specifications as the authoritative source of truth.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of five engineers by setting high standards for coding quality, architecture reviews, testing practices, and collaborative development.
- Integrate and extend existing systems such as ERPNext, Moodle, and Keycloak, making strategic build-versus-buy decisions as new requirements emerge.
- Govern key platform components such as containerization, orchestration, service design, tenancy models, data management, and operational costs.
- Collaborate with academic and operational stakeholders to translate college needs, including admissions, timetabling, student records, and AI tutoring, into effective software solutions.
- Recruit exceptional engineering talent to expand the team in alignment with product growth and organization goals.
- Provide clear and plain explanations of technical decisions to non-technical colleagues, ensuring transparency and shared understanding across teams.
- Evaluate, select, and responsibly utilize AI tools and large language models to augment development capabilities while maintaining code quality and safety.
- Manage platform infrastructure using industry best practices in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), GitOps, and DevSecOps to enable rapid and secure deployments.
- Continuously assess technologies and architectural patterns such as microservices, Kubernetes, and cloud-native SaaS models to align with long-term scalability and maintainability goals.
